I am Richard Free, I am 60 years old and for the last 37 years I have worked with vintage clothing.
The piece of vintage clothing I chose was a Cowichan sweater (more of a cardigan really). I first owned a similar sweater in the 70’s as a teenager. It was a fairly plain design and a little worn out but at the time I adored it. The cardigan just looked so 50’s and American.
America at that time seemed so far away and glamorous to a working-class teenager growing up in the North of England. I always believe that clothing should reflect your personality and make you happy and comfortable in your own skin. The Cowichan makes me smile.
