About This Project

In The Walled Garden is an ongoing project that follows the seasonal cycle of a 19th-century garden situated on the historic grounds of the Croxteth Hall country estate. The garden has faced financial difficulties, with the local council at one point threatening to close it. This has resulted in a cut in funding and the potential loss of some of the rarest plants within the collection. For many, the walled garden serves as a sanctuary as well as a communal space where conversations surrounding community, connection and creativity are not only encouraged but practised.

Although by no means consistent, the project began by accident in 2022 and perhaps serves more as a timeline of my own creative practice and development, with the focus of a seasonal cycle becoming a more recent addition. I hope that by documenting this and gradually curating a somewhat seasonal calendar, it will bring more appreciation for what is sitting at our doorstep and encourage others to conserve the heritage that has shaped the very nature of this garden.
