This project explores the experience of the South Asian diaspora who have emigrated to the United Kingdom. Juxtaposing the beauty and softness of the traditional Indian Saree with the harsh environments this community stereotypically find themselves trapped in; working in manual labour jobs such as construction, managing convenience shops, or driving buses through the UK’s major cities.
These jobs are vital for the maintenance of the country, and yet they are often disregarded as unskilled and unimportant.
This series represents the challenge of breaking free of these expectations and prejudices, whilst trying to stay connected to home.
