RESIDENTS BY MING DE NASTY
JAY
I’m a queer, non-binary, neurodivergent, working-class filmmaker/poet.
I grew up in Wigan, but my family lives here now and my dad is a scouser, so I have strong ties to the city. I’ve travelled all over, but I love living and working in Liverpool, it’s my home and in my heart. It’s one of the best cities in the world. I love the attitude, the friendliness, the green spaces, the culture, the possibilities.
I mostly feel able to be visible in Liverpool, but it’s not always safe and, of course, you have to alter the way you act sometimes. But that’s not a Liverpool thing, it’s across the country.
I hope one day being non-binary and trans will be no big deal, will be normal, and gender won’t be so policed and used as a political weapon to distract and divide people.
I think it’s good to remember that LGBTQIA+ people contribute loads to all walks of life, and there is a really diverse and vibrant scene that makes the city a better place to be for everyone
