Theme: Outside!
About This Project

I am a 19 year old photographer based out of London and Surrey in the UK. I’m currently studying photography at university whilst trying to create unique and important projects outside of the educational environment. This project is an example of that.

Dreamland was produced during the COVID-19 lockdown in the United Kingdom. The photos explore the emotions and feelings felt during my experience of lockdown.

There is enough bad news circulating at the moment and, although this project highlights feelings of loneliness and glumness, I have put a positive spin on it using a bright, vibrant and selective colour palette. We won’t be in lockdown forever and while we have time, why not turn what we’re feeling into stimuli to create.

Iceland, Australia, Ireland and parts of the UK feature in the project. Dreamland uses a style heavily inspired by Aerochrome film. All the photos featured were taken between July 2016 and August 2017. I was frustrated and unable to create work I was happy with from within the constraints of my house so I reached out, through my archive of images, to find images relating to how I was feeling.

This is very different to my normal style of shooting but I wanted to explore something new and exciting while cooped up in lockdown.
