CHRISTMAS ALL YEAR LONG
The Sefton coastline is defined not only by the sand dunes and beautiful beaches, but also the pinewoods. However, there are other trees one sees when walking near the sea – Christmas Trees!
The sand dunes ecosystem is constantly changing and moving, very similar to the history of Liverpool City Region itself. However, the dunes are massively impacted by coastal erosion and are retreating by over 4 metres each year, that’s more than double my height! In an effort to slow down this erosion and stabilise the sand, each year the locals donate Christmas trees for them to be put into the sand.
I took this picture on a very cold day to make it feel a little more festive to draw the eye to the Christmas trees rather than the sand or pinewoods in the distance 🙂
