Axon is a mature student studying Fine Art at DMU, and as part of her developing practice has been examining how the small things that we do, such as recycling, can impact on the small things, such as insects. During work with Naturespot on their 100 Species Challenge and Saving The Saffron Brook Project Axon looks at the scientific documentation of insect life and has started to strip the colour out of her photographic work showing her despair at the catastrophic fall in insect numbers whilst leaving hints of colour within the imagery to show the hope inspired by work towards restoring the Wash Brook in Leicester in order to produce a valuable wildlife corridor.
NatureSpot is a registered charity with an award-winning website all about the wildlife and wild places of Leicestershire and Rutland. It features over 7,000 species, all with images, descriptions and maps.
