RESIDENTS – MOON

REIDENTS BY MING DE NASTY

MOON

I feel I’m best described by the label ‘ND Enby Crip’, I’m 52 and I live on the Wirral. Liverpool is the only place I’ve felt welcomed; I love that people effectively claim me when they say ‘Our Moon’. Since I started my performance career this year, I feel more than ever that I’m part of the  LGBTQ+ community here.

Being a ND Enby Crip, I have felt rejected, however, I find myself warmly welcomed these days – especially at Eat Me and the Unity Theatre. For the first time ever, I feel like I have a  ‘chosen family’… It’s lovely.

On the whole, I feel if scousers claim you, they’re not afraid of fighting your corner if necessary. Liverpool feels more like home than anywhere I’ve ever lived – but I don’t feel at home. I’m very much aware I’m a ‘woollyback’.

I hope Liverpool stays true to its socialist core. More and more, I see people reading right-wing rags and espousing those views. I so want them to take pride in their open hearts, resilience and determination for positive change – to continue being the example to the rest of the country.
