My name is Jess and I identify as non-binary. I’ve been in Liverpool for 4 years now and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. It’s a vibrant and really warm city, and I feel really safe and at home here. I’ve found friendship and a sense of community within dance, joining Mersey Swing in February last year. I’ve met all different types of people both through the classes and travelling to other cities for events, and everyone has been warm and welcoming, both of myself and other LGBTQ+ people who have come along to try out dancing. The committee and volunteers make it a safe and fun space to meet new people, and I’d encourage anyone to come along. I struggled knowing where to fit in before, but I feel much more confident and happy now, and I have a cool new skill to show off!
