About This Project

THE BEAUTIFUL OAK AT ST BRIDES CHURCH, CATHERINE STREET, IN OCTOBER 2020

St Brides has several beautiful trees but this oak is the most majestic of all. Its monumental scale gives it a reassuring permanence which has been especially comforting during the pandemic. This Autumn in particular it attracted many admirers standing underneath its glorious branches. Depending on the light, in October, it is sometimes a rich, deep red, a muted earthy brown but its showstopping golden russet is my absolute favourite. I am compelled to stare and photograph it several times a day. But I never quite capture it as it is. The closer I get to its true beauty the less real my photograph looks. I hope someone has given it a name – it deserves one.
